This remix finds its genesis in the reconnecting of two musical careers that have regularly come into contact over the years. Says James of Debris Discs:
"Magic Arm and I go way back. We used to play in each other's bands and gig together, from Manchester all the way to Glastonbury. He's one of the most naturally inventive, talented, and downright lovely people I know, and I've always wanted him to remix one of my Debris Discs tracks.”
As in the original version of The Worst Sight That I've Seen So Far, the human elements of the song remain the focus of the remix; James’ moving performance undoubtedly affected by the source of the lyrics: WW2-era letters written by his grandfather.
Over the course of its six minutes, Magic Arm utilises sound and movement to create a series of scenes within the track. Reverberating with the rhythms of conflict, the listener is soothed and stirred in turn, encapsulating the sudden shifts that exist in theatres of war.
Lush and almost ambient lulls give way to more visceral and urgent tones that echo the opposing energies at play, as well as capturing the effect it has on the individual. For James, the song resonates both personally and artistically, as he discloses;
“The end result is a complete reimagining of the original. It's a dark, disconcerting ebb and flow of electronics and warped effects that really emphasises the narrative of the lyrics. I feel very lucky to be working with him again."
