Retrospective 08-23 is a compilation of the best tracks from the French project Mr Peel, covering the entire period of creativity: from 2008 to 2023.
Created by Fabien Chiloup, Mr Peel's project is a studio project. He is a multi-instrumentalist, but constantly works with session musicians from everywhere, so each album involves 10 or more people. The guest musicians perform on a variety of instruments: double bass, harmonica, Fender Rhodes, Indian flute, trumpet, Hammond organ, synthesizers and various percussion. The songs feature mostly female vocals in English, but there are also instrumental tracks and songs with male vocals.
In general, Mr Peel's music can be described as trip-hop with jazz melodies and psychedelic or noir atmosphere. The project is named after the heroine of the English retro series The Avengers, Emma Peel.
