Bio

Since 1985, Holland, Michigan has been the unlikely epicenter of a sonic revolution led by The Semi-Flying, Headless, Screaming, Thrashing Chickens. Formed by the enigmatic duo Scum Puppy (drums) and Bally (guitars/vocals), the band has spent decades defying categorization. Their sound is a volatile fusion of Progressive Metal, Speed Metal, and Lo-fi satire, interspersed with surreal audio skits and "Progressive Noise."

Frontman Bally, also known as Bally (The Lead Laugher), is legendary for his virtuoso guitar work, torturous screams, and bouts of insane laughter. Alongside Scum Puppy’s percussion and the steady bass of Hokey Pete, they crafted a legacy starting with 1986's Squak 'Em and their self-titled debut on Boneless Records. Rare 80s pressings, including the cult favorite EP The Leaping Lizard Investigators Do The Hazelbank Shuffle (Boneless Records), remain global treasures for collectors.

The band’s reputation for chaos was cemented on the road. In 1986, they embarked on their first US tour, the aptly named Just a Gas. They followed this in 1987 with the Leaping Lizard Gas Attack, a tour that solidified their status in the underground. After a long hiatus, they signed exclusively with Hoobie Records in 2025. This sparked a massive creative explosion, culminating in the 2026 release of the powerhouse album West Ottawa Blowtorch and over 12 accompanying EPs. From "Bally’s Laugh-a-Mania" to "You Went to Class," the Chickens continue to thrash the boundaries of music and sanity.
