Mikaere returns with a mesmerizing new EP, These Ghosts, delivering two tracks solidly in the world of deep house with an eye on the hazy and immersive. Vocal fragments, nostalgic piano, off-kilter percussion and rich textures feature heavily on both tracks.

With Distorted Memories, Drigg takes skipping minimal beats and weaves them around emotive atmospheres. Delicate touches and details keep the tracks evolving and moving. The result is both kinetic and contemplative. A fitting soundtrack for a walk through the city, or early morning dancefloors.

The title track is centered around a haunting melody floating in the background, setting a wistful mood. Benevolence picks up where Distorted Memories ends, picking up the pace and pushing interesting rhythmic elements to the front. Rounding out the EP, Mikaere reworks Distorted Memories adding gentle piano lines and burbling synths for a loose, relaxed mood.

Mikaere’s latest release for Sound & Object, We Are Each Other’s Heart, is a single track of deep house. Simple, dreamy and moving. Warm pads, bubbling bass, and crisp drums support a plaintive vocal line.

For their first EP with Sound & Object, Kopfbahnhof deliver an EP of buoyant house. Dreisam EP echoes the river for which it named after… full of life, churning with undercurrents of light and dark.

The title track rides a rough bassline, slowly opening up into a sweeping house track, recalling sunrises at summer open-air parties. Shufflehofer Weizen, again is full of energy and light with a slight breakbeat undercurrent to drive it along. Finally, Mikaere remixes Dreisam into a more understated and atmospheric piece.

Lone Start is shaded with the nuances of melancholy, but uplifting undercurrents bubble up at the edges. The tracks feel fluid, organic and unsettled as opposing emotions vie for control. A regretful look back or a hopeful look forward? An end or a beginning?

Each of the tracks settles into a groove — follow the shifting hazy pads if that is where your mood takes you, or the bright synths that play around the edges. There is a bright, sharp feeling to Vamo' Paco — with stuttering layered melodies that play off a classic house shuffle. Both tracks have a jazzy undercurrent, Timmy develops a more energetic feeling with the title track and in Onyre pushes towards a deeper dreamier mood.

For the first EP on Sound & Object, Mikaere brings us two tracks of wistful deep house with Passeriform. The title is a slight alteration of a term used for bird classification, usually referred to as perching birds, and each track named after a bird within this group.

Both tracks are wrapped in a hazy wash, and remind one of time spent watching birds move against a washed out blue sky while the world slips away becoming a barely audible buzzing…
