GROUND:FAULT:INTERRUPT 

The GROUND:FAULT:INTERRUPT project took off in earnest in 2021. I'll never forget the excitement of submitting my very first singles off for release across all the streaming sites and stores. I still look back at these tracks fondly and appreciate them for what they are. Sure, I have improved in my production knowledge since then, and my more recent releases may be more sophisticated, but these tracks still were born out of valid ideas. My philosophy has always been about ideas based music. I still drop these tracks in my DJ sets depending on what style of set I'm playing. "sublunary sphere" marked my first effort at making a psy-trance track. This will be the first of many I hope. Tracks such as "sublunary sphere" and "Dystopian Sunset" are examples where I draw on my guitar playing experience, and use of guitar fx to create interesting sounds. "Automaton" was an idea that formed as I was trying to work out how to use a bass synth plugin. I had no idea what I was doing, but the chords run through the plugin sounded cool I thought, hence I made it into a track. "Roundabout" is an example of extremely minimal techno.

What did you say?

The 2023 single releases are interesting as they largely are tracks where I went back and built upon early unfinished ideas. The original ideas that I had for the tracks were often in a different subgenre to the finished product. An example is "Beyond Consciousness" which I originally had planned to be an EBM or industrial track built around the main synth motif. However, once applying a different bassline groove and the vocal sample, the track soon went in a different direction. I play the track in tech or deep house DJ sets, although Beatport classifies it as electro. 

The same pretty much can be said about "What did you say?". The original synth line on its own had a completely different character to the end product one the bass line and the vocal sample were added into the mix.

"How good is acid?" is a track built from a 303 recording session I had at Melbourne's MESS (Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio) studio. The 303 used is a vintage piece of equipment. I captured many loops as I played around with the unit without any real track in mind. I finally worked out a way to make a completed track from this one particular recording, hence "How good is acid?" was born. I perform with the 303 using the resonance, frequency, decay and envelope knobs as if I was performing with an instrument.

GFI-001

GFI-001 is an EP released by GROUND:FAULT:INTERRUPT in 2022. The concept for this EP came from developing a series of tracks with a similar minimal techno feel that would be ideal to incorporate in techno DJ sets.

Previously releases were singles based on standalone ideas, so this demonstrated a different creative direction for the project. The end result remains quite satisfying.

The EP opens with the track "Prime Mover". An idea that came from a very simple, yet mesmerising and infectious melodic line that becomes more and more rhythmic as the track progresses. The percussion layers whilst they appear very simple on the surface, generate rhythms within rhythms, especially whilst playing at the same time.

"Rising Tide" has proven to be a track that has been streamed and enjoyed across the globe mainly due to its distinct and hypnotic synth riff.

"Rumblestiltskin" features my cat Bella who has a beautiful purr and she deserves a track of her own. The acid, almost psychedelic bassline to this track, along with the randomness of sampling a cat, is very old school rave like in the way it is approached in terms of pure experimentation.

Lastly, but not least "Bioluminescent" is a minimal techno track that has a very ethereal feel featuring many long reverb trails and interesting sound textures.

I hope you enjoy listening and dancing to these tracks as much as I enjoyed making them.
